“Fondations”
Alcohol Markers on Card-stock
18” x 13”
In my personal favorite piece, I wanted the viewer to see what I see in my head when a Scandinavian country is mentioned. The bold Norwegian Flag is constructed with Viking age artifacts and figures from Norse Mythology. Most of the artifacts are weapons as Viking countries are arguably best known for the Vikings warriors that once lived there. It visually represents my thoughts when a country rich in history, such as Norway, is mentioned.

“Old Norse Earth”
India Ink on Paper
24” x 42”
This work was inspired by figures from Norse mythology that are said to be tied to Earth. Two wolves that chase the sun and moon, a giant serpent in the Earth’s oceans and Mjolnir representing Thor, who protects Earth. I wanted to make the figures bold and display them clearly like the carvings in rune stones surviving from the Viking age. The complex patterns are reminiscent of how historians believe the Vikings would have decorated things; surviving artifacts show similar patterns.
“Ending”
Charcoal on Paper
18” x 12”
arkness in this piece covay the fear that comes with the Norse story I based this artwork on. The three figures that can be seen within the darkness are the children of Loki, the Norse trickster god. It is said that at the end of the world, an event known as Ragnorok, these three will emerge and bring death and ruin to all. This story instilled great fear in those who heard it and I wished for the viewer to feel some of that fear.

“Final Moments”
Charcoal on Paper
24” x 18”
With this work, I wished to show what someone might see in their final moments. The figure in the center is a depiction of the Norse god Odin who is said to appear as one is about to die. The image is reflected on an astronaut's helmet who’s visor is cracked, impling death is near. I was inspired by similar art of an astronaut looking at something that is reflected in their helmet. I have always liked the lack of facial expression that still manages to convey emotion.
